Friday 24th January 2020

Practical lessons in The Green Room

21st January 2020Neaera Warren

Tuesday 21st January 2020

In The Green Room, students have been learning about where they live in relation to the rest of the country and the world. In science, pupils completed a science experiment where they constructed a homemade compass out of a bowl of water, a pin and a magnet. once magnetised, the pin spins around and points to magnetic north.

Miss Lambert supported Charleigh in  learning about the discovery of Tutankhamun. Charleigh really enjoyed the lesson and was very engaged when making a clay model of a Sphinx and a Pyramid.

Change of Clothes for Enrichment

21st January 2020Neaera Warren

At the Beacon Centre we believe that every young person should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development, whatever their age, ability or circumstances.

As a school we aim to offer a wide range of enrichment opportunities for learning provided by a range of activities conducted outside the classroom.

Enrichment enables students to develop key skills and the activities that will help to foster them.  For all students the aims are:

  • Developing self esteem
  • Encouraging team-working skills
  • Familiarisation with basic tools and fire
  • Encouraging relationship building among their peers

As the activities take place outdoors,  it is possible that student’s clothes could get dirty.

Please could students bring a change of clothes and footwear to wear for the activities to avoid their school clothes and shoes getting dirty. Depending on the activity and the weather, they may also require a waterproof coat and trousers, warm layers of clothing or wellies.

The days for Enrichment:

Monday – Year 10

Tuesday – KS3a

Wednesday – Year 11

Thursday – KS3b
