Students were invited to HMS Calliope in Gateshead for a talk with ‘Samantha’s Legacy’.
The Beacon Centre were the first people to receive this talk from ‘Samantha’s Legacy’. Samantha was sadly stabbed in 2007 by a 15 year old girl. Samantha had become a mum 4 months before she was killed. Samantha’s mum, Alison and sister Carly spoke to the students to raise awareness and try to prevent knife crime. Northumbria police were in attendance at the event also speaking to the students about the increase in knife offences in our local area.
The students were then invited to the Knife Angel statue outside the Sage. This statue is made up of 100,000 knives that have been taken off the streets in the UK. Some students were amazed at the size of some of the knives that have been confiscated.
One student said, “What an inspirational story!”
Another student said, “That has taken some courage to get up and talk to us about this incident well done!”
