Some Key Stage 3 students spent the afternoon having a go at flying Miss Burrows’ drone; using it to take some photos and videos of South Shields seafront and Cleadon Hills. Keenan showed that he had excellent piloting skills and also took some amazing photos and videos.

The ‘Hands, Face, Space’ campaign urges everyone to continue to wash their hands, cover their face and make space to control infection rates. The NHS has released a ‘Hands. Face. Space.’ video that may be a useful resource when communicating the importance of wearing a face covering on transport directly to children and young people.

As part of Our Better Health Award today, all staff had to show an act of kindness to another person by either leaving a note or doing something for them. Helping others can be beneficial to our own mental health. It can reduce stress, improve our emotional wellbeing and even benefit our physical health. The atmosphere around school was very positive and everyone had a smile on their face.
Feedback from Staff:
I came back to my desk to find a bag full of treats of things I love with a note saying I was appreciated. It made me feel valued. It made me smile.
I absolutely loved my poem I received today, it was really nice to hear about everyone’s acts of kindness. As a new member of staff it made me really feel part of the team, it’s so nice that everyone is more than willing to go out of their way to make someone else happy. It’s such a great place to work!!
My AOK was a personalised message with printed images of all the things me and the staff member talk about
It was a great idea. For a couple of hours yesterday it was lovely to see some of the things staff were trying to secretly do without getting caught by their selected person
I loved how everyone wanted to show off the lovely things that people had been saying about them. There was a really nice buzz around the school.
Yesterday was World Appreciation Day. At The Beacon Centre we all picked a member of staff’s name from an envelope and thought of something kind to do for them or say to them. It was lovely to see lots of appreciative smiles and to hear people laughing.
Today’s act of Kindness made me feel that I am a valued member of the Beacon Centre which made me feel proud and somewhat overwhelmed that somebody had taken the time to do something meaningful.
I got a lovely poem ‘it only takes a split second to smile and forget, yet to someone that needed it, it can last a lifetime.’
It felt great, and came as a wonderful surprise which kept me smiling throughout the rest of the day. It was a lovely gesture and was very much appreciated. ‘Kindness is the best nourishment for humanity.’
“I had my kindness message delivered to me by a student so that it was a lovely surprise. I received a poem which made me feel happy that someone had taken the time to write such kind words.”
It’s Mr Hall’s birthday today! As an act of kindness Mrs Simpson made him an amazing cake.
As a further act of kindness, Mr Hall shared this with the children and staff because we all know, kindness spreads kindness.

In The Green Room this week, Mark was given the challenge of constructing a moving vehicle out of meccano parts. Mark built his own vehicle which went far beyond his brief.

Miss Burrows and Miss Marshall have been very impressed with the attitude to learning the Year 10 boys have displayed in Maths since returning to school. They are trying extremely hard to ensure they secure the knowledge and skills required to progress in Maths. Here they are enjoying an end of lesson game of ‘Play Your Cards Right’. Kai managed a streak of 23 cards! Keep up the hard work lads!

Today KS3b spent a very windy afternoon taking a stroll along Tynemouth Beach and exploring Tynemouth Park. This week was Shane’s turn to show off his photography skills and impressed everyone with his very serious attitude towards getting the best shot; climbing sand dunes and getting down at ground level to bring his visions to life! Students made the most of the play area they had to themselves trying out all of the equipment!

Today our pupils celebrated European Day of Languages, an event which is celebrated across the continent in recognition of the wide variety of languages spoken here and the importance of learning another language.
Each class in the secondary school cooked a delicacy from another country before all getting together to try the different food.
KS3a knocked up a Greek salad.
KS3b whipped up an Italian tiramisu.
Year 10 tested their mixology skills with a Spanish punch.
Year 11 spoilt us with French crêpes and a variety of toppings.
It was great to see all of the students work collaboratively, using their maths when measuring
and weighing and being able to give their opinions when trying the food. With several students asking for a second serving, it was obvious that the tiramisu was the biggest hit!
