KS3 Boxing Session

14th March 2019Neaera Warren

On Thursday 14th March 2019, Mr Townend took some of our KS3 pupils to participate in a boxing session as part of their weekly PE lesson. The pupils all listened well and fully engaged in the activities.

Now to give it a go!

It’s all about the stance!

Excellent dodge Ben!

Why is boxing an effect PE activity?

‘Boxing, encourages students to be physically active for sustained periods of time and improves their fitness for competitive sports. Boxing is fantastic for developing speed, stamina and strength, and is a great way to engage previously inactive youngsters. Training for the ring teaches self-discipline, commitment and concentration, building confidence and acting as a safe outlet for aggression.’ (https://www.teachsecondary.com/sport/view/lesson-plan-ks3-4-pe-boxing-for-fitness)

Primary Welcomes KS!

8th March 2019Neaera Warren

On Friday 8th March 2019, Class 2 welcomed Mrs Warren and KS into their classroom in preparation for starting the Kidsafe Programme next week.

What is Kidsafe?

‘KidSafe programmes are age appropriate and delivered to children without shattering their innocence.

Our aim is to protect, educate and empower children. With the help of our puppet, KS, our courses are uniquely designed to help children take an active role in protecting themselves from all forms of abuse.

KidSafe is proactive, not reactive and we wholeheartedly believe that empowering children to speak out to a trusted grown up about abuse will help minimise the short and long term damage and harm associated with abuse.’ (https://www.kidsafeuk.co.uk/about-us/)

The pupils loved meeting KS and talking about ‘Yukky Feelings’ and things they can do to keep themselves safe.  They listened well to Mrs Warren and each produced a poster of KS.

PE in the Sea

7th March 2019Neaera Warren

On 7th March 2019, a group of our KS3 secondary pupils had the opportunity to participate in kayaking and paddle board activities. The activities are designed for enquiring minds and active bodies with the emphasis of creating a passion for quality time spent outdoors, reinforcing important water safety messages and delivering relevant curriculum aims and objectives that support in-school learning.

The activities involved intellectual and physical challenges to encourage the pupils to work as a team, build on trust and develop their skills to solve problems, either individually or as a group.

The struggle to get our shoes on! Team work needed!
Half a shoe on! The struggle is real!
Mrs Warren eventually got into her wetsuit!

We are ready to go!
Helping each other get into our wetsuits!
Some of us got ready much quicker than others!

Worn out already from just trying to get the wetsuits on!
It’s never been so hard to put a shoe on!
Mr Townend and Mrs Warren cannot wait to get in the sea to start the activities!

Everyone had an excellent time; the pupils worked as a team and they all enjoyed making sure Mr Townend and Mrs Warren ended up in the water…on numerous occasions!

Unfortunately, we did not have a waterproof camera, therefore, we were limited to photos before the activities. When we return with our year 11 pupils next week, we are going to try to get action photos and videos…WATCH THIS SPACE!
